Just a few miles from the cabin is the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoy the beauty of all seasons from the many places to explore along the way. Don't forget Craggy Gardens or Linville Falls. Be sure to stop by Linville Caverns for a trip underground! Or check out Douglas Falls which is only minutes away.
Hop on the Appalachian Trail while you visit Hot Springs. It's a scenic half hour away!
Popular hot spots include Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and the Nantahala River.

About 12 minutes from the cabin is Asheville Botanical Gardens. It is right next to UNCA. Or you could try North Carolina Arboretum. And don't miss the Spring Herb Festival at the Farmer's Market every May!
For fans of the movie, you could visit Cold Mountain. And try this page for plenty of information on ski slopes and tubing!
Of course, the slopes at Wolf Laurel are only minutes away from Rocky River Cabin!
The arts and entertainment:
While in downtown Asheville, be sure to visit New Morning Gallery. Or learn more about film production in Asheville at Blue Ridge Motion Pictures.
A very popular destination is the Biltmore Estate. Enjoyable throughout the year, the winter holiday season is especially magnificent.
Head north to visit the Penland School of Crafts. Or catch a show at the Asheville Civic Center.
Don't miss The Orange Peel music hall for top notch live music.
Food and drink:
In Weaverville, try Blue Mountain Pizza on Main Street. Weaverville Milling Company Restaurant and The Athens Restaurant are local, too.
The Laughing Seed Cafe is a vegetarian's heaven. It is located downtown. Jack of The Wood is a popular celtic bar just down the street. And for coffee and dessert, try Old Europe Coffee House on Battery Park Ave. Or try some coffee in the double decker bus just down the block from Mast General Store.
A local favorite is the Stoney Knob Cafe, located on Merrimon Avenue in Weaverville on the way to Asheville.
Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria is a local favorite and the whole family will be comfortable. Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company is another fun spot. Or you could try the Mellow Mushroom downtown.
Another hot spot for vegan or vegetarian fare is Rosetta's Kitchen, located on N. Lexington downtown.
Fun with the kids:
A trip to the Western North Carolina Nature Center is a must for animal enthusiasts! It is only 1/2 hour away from the cabin. When you are finished, the kids may enjoy Asheville's health and science museum, The Health Adventure, which is located at Pack Place in the heart of downtown Asheville.
Head about an hour north from Rocky River Cabin for some gem mining fun! Or spend a day on the Tweetsie Railway in Blowing Rock, NC. If you have time after the railroad, try Mystery Hill for some unusual feats of gravity.
Of course, if it is warm out, you don't want to miss Sliding Rock, a natural waterslide near Brevard.
Our Favorites:
The Well Bred Bakery, a coffee shop on Main Street in Weaverville, is inviting and sells wonderful pastries. If you need internet access, bring your laptop to Port City Java on Merrimon Ave.
A favorite place to shop is Mast General Store in downtown Asheville. The kids will love the old-fashioned candy section, while the outdoor enthusiasts will find everything they need downstairs.
For a filling and nicely priced meal, try the casual Greek restaurant, The Athens Restaurant. In Weaverville, it is about 10 minutes from the cabin.
If you are looking for something a little more fancy, yet still casual, try Jae at Westgate Shopping Center. Thai food is served with wonderful vegetarian selections. And it is right next to Earth Fare.
